Canadiens hold online vote to determine future of mascot METAL!

Fans can vote now on how “metal” future home games will be

MONTREAL – Crank the volume up to 11 – or don’t.

The Canadiens announced on Monday that fans can now vote to determine the future of the team’s secondary mascot, METAL!, the famous blue character originally reintroduced at select Reverse Retro home games in 2022.

METAL! has been a major success story ever since his return, adored by fans worldwide despite his limited role at the Bell Centre. The online comment section of any post he appears in is often overrun with admirers seemingly imploring him to sign a new, more permanent contract with the Club, with messages like “enough, please resign already.”

METAL!’s presence has also been a boon for the team’s on-ice fortunes. Following a 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders in Reverse Retro uniforms on Feb. 11, 2023, the Canadiens have not lost a single game while wearing the powder blue jerseys in the 13-plus months since.

After announcing his retirement in Oct. 2023, the mascot announced his unretirement in Nov. 2023, much to fans’ delight. In total, he appeared at four home games during the 2023-24 season as part of his MERCREDIS METAL! MONDAYS comeback tour, a series of Monday and Wednesday contests that featured the mascot in attendance.

With fans no doubt wondering what’s next for the character, it’s now up to them to decide by voting on just how much METAL! they can handle in the poll below.
